Ryan's many hats and faces

Ryan turned 8 months on Friday. My how the time flies! Here are some of his recent discoveries and random things we have subjected him to.

Peruvian hat. Brought back from Peru (the country not the city) by grandma Coffman. He wears it when we go out on walks. Then old ladies walk up to him and tell Ryan how cute he his. One time while wearing this hat a few single girls who work for BYU's maintenance saw him and started hyperventilating and almost passed out due to Ryan's extreme cuteness. Jesse tells me I have helped make them baby hungry for life.

I caught Jesse the other day with his sock half off waving his foot around. He told me he was trying to figure out what was so fun about it. Ryan loves to remove and eat his socks. No idea why... Jesse didn't get the same thrill.

South American hats... maybe it's in Ryan's blood like grease and dough are. When I make bread Ryan tries his very best to get at it. Anyway, this is Jesse's Panama hat from Ecuador. That's where they are made. This hat resides on our fire alarm, but they were to be tested so Ryan got to wear it.

Western baby


The toy box. Ryan has discovered that his toys come from here. He will roll over to the box and pull himself up on the corner and attempt to pull it over. He has yet to succeed, but we will tip it over for him. Ryan will spend minutes in front of it pulling out the toys he doesn't want throwing them behind him until he finds whatever it is that he wants. For that matter Ryan rolls all over our living room trying to get what he wants. He did get a pretty good head bonk doing this. He tried to roll through the set of drawers next to his changing area. It left quite the red mark.

Most people are amazed that Ryan will "feed himself" (I have to put food on it and put it in his hand) Really though this was for my survival. It is the only way I get to get a bite in.

This baby loves water in the tub, cup, running faucet, rain, snow or however it will come to him. After eating he will start breathing excitedly and bouncing until you give him his cup of water.

I see the camera! You can't fool me mom.

Bouncing Baby Boy

I guess this is why they are called bouncing baby boys...

I'm laughing so it's a bit wiggly...

Ryan has started to ride like a big kid sitting up in the shopping cart. (not in the car seat) He will hold onto the front of the seat and bounce. It makes the cart roll. The ball is apparently where he practices.

Just another day...

Not that any day with Ryan is anything boring or ordinary...

What was that? The camera came out because Ryan would turn his head and laugh at Jared and then look away. I probably do that to Ryan.

I'll get that camera! It's hard to tell but Ryan has pulled himself up on the edge of his tub and is standing on his own.

He can do the splits while staring at the camera. Tricky tricky...

Family Home Evening...

Snowmen. Jen had given us all the materials needed to do a snowman activity for FHE. Our entire family participated...

Ewwww... Ryan did not paint his nails for this picture.

Vaguely reminiscent of a Calvin and Hobbs comic strip or two (or twenty).

Apparently the ghost of snowmen past was haunting the poor little guy, but check it out! We got a decent picture of his brand new, two front teeth!! (A little late for Christmas I'm afraid)

This was the first victim, and for those that are weak of heart, don't worry. This movie isn't nearly as graphic as the pictures. : )

Enrichment

We had a Family Home Evening Enrichment. Here are some of the amazing ideas Jen came up with. The idea is that the treat is the activity as well. She had ideas for every month, but only some of them are here. (As in the better photos)

January- Banana snowman. He has a carrot nose, mini chocolate chip eyes/buttons and an apple hat.

March - mini apple pies (made in mini pie tins)

April - bunny slippers! How cute is this? Marshmallows cut and the sticky parts covered in pink sugar. They have partial or mini marshmallows for ears and tails. Chocolate jimmies and color sprinkles make the eyes and nose.

Roll out the gum drops. Make sure to do this on sugar or you will have very stuck gum drops.

Wrap them around a toothpick

June- Ants on a log, cheese and Chinese noodle bug and peanut butter and banana caterpillar.

July- Marshmallow eagle. He has a cashew nose and coconut feathers. He sits on a cookie base. (see family fun for instructions)

August- beach scene made of graham cracker crumbs on pudding

October - donut-hole acorns

Also October - Pumpkin and Frankenstein pudding (food coloring was used to color the pudding)

November - Cookie turkey

Also November - cornucopia from a sugar cone.

December - Picabo Sweet (skier) see family fun for instructions

Honorable mentions - but didn't photograph well
February- fortune cookies made from pie crust and dusted with pink sugar (write your own fortunes)
July- "sparklers" made from large pretzels dipped in almond bark and covered in sprinkles
August - Dirt cake (well this one wasn't actually there) Chocolate pudding with crushed Oreos on top. Add gummy worms and a fake flower and serve with a shovel.
September - Fish aquarium made from blue Jell-O with Swedish Fish inside. Add rock candy or fruit roll-up seaweed. Let Jell-O set for about 2 hours before adding fish. Be careful not to let it sit for too long. Jen did hers the night before and the fish had gotten quite um bloated?

Community Outreach Day 2010 a.k.a. Martin Luther King Jr. Day or Service Day (is that title long enough?)

Each year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day we go to campus and eat donuts, drink milk or juice and provide some service to the local community. We have colored, knitted hats, sewed footballs and this year we made tutus. BYU decided that funds are better used by serving the local community. This is done instead of paying large amounts on shipping to send projects abroad.
