Laundry

New clean jammies - just washed

Laundry is always an adventure... living on the 3rd floor makes it more exciting. My neighbor offered to watch Ryan whenever I need to do laundry. I, however, manage to do laundry when she is not home. Ryan either gets to be in the wrap or ...

ride

He quite enjoys riding and luckily for me he isn't able to roll out and has not yet spit up on the clean laundry.

This is how we know it is time to clip his fingernails

Everything in this picture is second hand (even the socks and blanket)... well except the diaper...

Peaches

I found a wonderful deal on peaches... they came out to be around 27 cents a pound. The only problem being you have to buy a half bushel (about 22 pounds). They are delicious peaches, but we can not eat all of them and thus the canning began. Jesse came home to a sticky film all over the kitchen. But now we have canned peaches.

What Ryan really thinks about canning.

Ward Ice Cream Social

For the second year in a row our quad won the Wymount Opening Social tug-of-war... we had to defend our title right? Well I suppose it helps that we are right next to the field where it takes place and we had twice as many people pulling as any other quad. So, we won ice cream!

What?

The creamery by DT closed down and BYU is down to about 3 ice cream flavors and a limited supply of it. We got mostly vanilla and some cookies and cream. The best part was the topping... whipped cream, cherries, nuts, caramel and chocolate sauce.

Hey can I take your picture?

BYU has this thing about watering our quad... everyday. Now we have a swamp.

Videos

So I have decided that videos are somewhat easier to capture then pictures. I have a 30 second window that way. Ryan is learning new things everyday.

Pizza Etc.

So Papa Murphy's was having their annual customer appreciation night. (The reason we started going there in the first place). This means large pepperoni pizza for 4.99 (plus tax of course). Imagine my excitement when we drove up and saw that large pepperoni pizzas were 3.99 dinner for $4.26 Hurray!

This is Ryan learning how to grade Mechanical Engineering homework. And me being grateful that Jesse never had Dr. Blotter as a teacher.

Devotional

Today we heard from President Thomas S. Monson for our devotional.
It was amazing. If you did not get a chance to hear it go to
http://www.byub.org/devotionals/
to listen, watch or read it.

President Monson gave simple, sweet memories of each of the prophets from his life time. He told of personal memories and of the prophet's favorite song and food. He also gave a favorite quote and key character trait of each:

President Heber J. Grant: Presist

President George Albert Smith: There is a great tug of war going on between Satan and the Lord. Stay firmly on the Lord's side; Compassion.

President David O McKay: Consideration

President Joseph Fielding Smith: Scholarship

President Harold B. Lee: Stand ye in holy places and be not moved; Be responsive to and in tune with the Holy Spirit

President Spencer W. Kimball: Lengthen your stride; Dedication

President Ezra Taft Benson: What manner of me ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am. (3 Nephi 27:27); Love

President Howard W. Hunter: Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth... (Proverbs 27:2); Look for the Best in People

President Gordon B. Hinckley: And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! (Doctrine and Covenants 76:22) ; Do Your Best

President Monson concluded by stating these men have never wiavered, never faltered and have never failed.

Looking back on summer... Goshen

So Jesse was working at the Goshen fair toward the end of summer. Cinnamon's four oldest kids and Marie's two oldest were at grandma's house. Well Lexi and Lily woke up sick so they stayed back home with grandma. So I was off to the Goshen fair with three little boys. (Taylor, Samuel and Ryan). About 15 minutes away from home Sam calls and asks me to bring butter. So to Kroger we go. We get into the store and I realize I have to go to the bathroom (and can't make the 1 1/2 hour drive). So to the back of the store. I put the baby on the ground and tell the boys not to move. Fastest I have ever gone. And much to my relief they are still standing there outside the door. Then off to the butter. To keep thier interest I ask Samuel and Taylor to find the cheapest butter. They do and they each take there 4 pounds each (it keep their hands busy through the store). We go through the self checkout and Taylor wants to scan his own... so I let him and then Samuel does his. I hand both boys thier bags of butter and we head out. The self-checkout worker hestitanly says "have a nice day". Back in the car.

So... I really don't know Indiana that well. And I get lost in Warsaw. Yeah. So we finally get to the fair and it is raining. By the time we get there the baby is hungry so I feed them while the boys go on a two rides and sign up for the frog jumping contest. We waited a while in the rain for Samuel and Taylor's turn. Samuel's frog went 72 inches in 2 jumps (or something close to that). At that point Taylor tells me he doesn't feel good. So I send him back to the Elephant Ear trailer with Grandpa. Part the way through eating lunch with Jesse, Taylor throws up behind the trailer. So we wait a bit to make sure it is all out of him. And I feed the baby again. And say good bye to Jesse and we try to leave. Well someone had parked their truck really close to the van and I was stuck. Luckily Doug came out of the camper just then and he backed the van out. Home we go. And I did't get lost.

Samuel was the only one feeling good that night. He also got a bit lonely and as I was doing laundry he put a sleeping bag and pillow down outside the door and told me he just wanted to be near me. That was an adventurous day. (click on the images to make them bigger).

Ryan's new blanket

Ryan has recently realized that we are separate people. Such actions as leaving the room (even while Jesse is holding him) elicits anger and un-soothe able crying It has also made bedtime a whole lot more difficult. So I decided to make him a blanket. Hopefully said blanket will help him to feel comforted when against; bedtime, gas and the garbage truck (it terrifies him).
If you want to make them they are really easy. Just let me know.

In other news...

Jesse when on a trip to Salt Lake today to meet the company that is sponsoring his capstone project. And he came home with a new addition to our liar's club items.

Is it a nose guard?

Maybe a snoot/drool catcher... you will have to make some guess and perhaps we will tell you ;)

Kicking

Yesterday Ryan discovered that he could make the elephant jingle by kicking it. It is now one of his favorite things to do while in the swing. Again no sound... Jesse's camera is missing the necessary software to allow the sound to upload :P Maybe a driver will help the problem...

Big kicking... soccer player maybe? Then it looks like he gets plan scared of the rattle. LOL

Dreams come true...

Well today ends my first week as a stay at home mom in my own house. And although I am rather sleep deprived life could not be better. This is the Father's Day card I gave to Jesse. It is right dreams really do come true.

Here are 10 things that make me happy (in no particular order)...

1. Rocking my baby to sleep
2. The smile Ryan gave me this morning when I laid him on my lap before nursing him.
3. Falling asleep snuggled up next to Jesse
4. Dancing to the car radio with Jesse
5. Good produce... especially when it's cheap :)
6. Having a full pantry and freezer
7. Hearing Ryan gulp as he nurses
8. Jesse's goofy antics
9. A shower without baby interruptions
10. Sitting in sacrament surrounded by my family and friends and hearing them sing the hymns.

Diaper Changes

Some kids enjoy diaper changes, like Ryan's cousin Emma. She hates being wet and starts to giggle when she realizes that her diaper is about to be changed. Not Ryan... he usually screams through the whole experience.

Now I debated on the appropriateness of this post. If you do not like descriptions of diaper changes or think that poop is gross do not continue reading. If you are a mom or would like to laugh at me please continue.

It started out as a very calm diaper change which is a rare thing in our house. I apparently should have waited about 5 minutes before I started this one...
... So I lay Ryan down and start the normal diaper change. I am wiping him off when he starts to poop. Thinking it would just be a little gas I try to catch it in the wipe... quickly realizing that my wipe is very insufficient I reach for a cloth diaper and stick it under him. Having recently moved back to our apartment we do not have a garbage can in the baby room (why I have no idea). And the wipe is so dirty I don't want to put it down.
I sprint to the kitchen garbage and throw the wipe in. I get back to Ryan and see that his face is a little wet. Thinking it is just spit up I reach for our last newborn sized diaper. It was then I realize that it was pee, not spit-up and indeed he had gotten everything in the pack-and-play (where I was changing him) wet, including himself. I grab the pack of ones and fish one out of the plastic casing and notice that it is very big on him.
After wrestling with it for a second I realize the back is slimy. I had not gotten all of the poop off of the changing area and the back of the diaper is now covered in it. Off the diaper comes and at this point Ryan has had enough and starts screaming. Finally two disposable and two cloth diapers later he is ready for the day. (Amazingly the outfit I had laid out never got dirty)

After we get back from the doctor's I will find a garbage can for that room.

Rolling Take Two

Alright so I finally got him on camera. My camera is a little lame and has no sound.

After he rolls over, he gets really angry. I am not sure why.

So I ask myself... how is he suppose to have tummy time when he won't stay on his tummy? I suppose he is trying really hard to learn how to roll from his back to his tummy.

Rolling

Yesterday night I set Ryan down on his tummy on the Mobile Merry Monkey Mat, while Jesse and I were getting dinner ready. I came back and notice the Ryan had turn himself 90 degrees and had rolled onto his back. To insure that this was not simply the aligning of the stars we again put him on his tummy (this time on a blanket) and he rolled again. He managed to do it one more time last night before passing out on the blanket. He either rolls best when upset or he gets upset while trying to roll.

This morning he rolled a 3/4 roll on our bed. He would have made it all the way but he got tangled up in our sheet. Of course every time I was ready with the camera to watch him roll he wouldn't do it. So here is a picture of him passed out after all of his hard work.

Back in Provo

Well here we are back in Provo. I will catch up on my summer blogging. Really.
We came back to new carpet, our furniture all out of place and no hot water! Thankfully Lauren was kind enough to air out our house while we were gone and the new carpet smell was all but gone. Jesse, Lauren and Jake made quick work of getting the furniture back into place. It is great to be home again.

Ryan is adjusting to his new home and the new time zone. Jesse is starting his new semester of classes and getting ready to take the GRE in a few weeks. I am trying to get our house back in order and adjusting to being a stay at home mom.
